Our map and GPS course starts with a foundation in the NRCAN topographic map series, introducing concepts like UTM, latitude, longitude, map datums, contour lines, and routes.
We offer training in many aspects of environmental monitoring, including climate, water, soil, plants, and wildlife.
We have conducted over 25 of these courses in nearly every community in the NWT. Environmental monitoring training can be customized to your needs. In the past, we have created short courses for Aurora College, Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO), and Indigenous and Northern Affairs Canada (INAC) on contaminated-site monitoring, as well as programs for community-based monitors in the Inuvialuit Settlement Regions. Our staff are also licensed to conduct ECO Canada Environmental Core (monitoring) training courses. Training courses typically involve an summary of the interpersonal and soft skills environmental monitors need, an overview of the environmental field in the NWT, technical skills (cameras, GPS, maps, radio), environmental sampling (water quality, soil, fish, etc.), and workplace safety.
