Guardian and Community Stewardship Program Development

We provide support to guardian and stewardship programs at every stage, including planning, organization, resourcing, training, data management, and assessment.

  • Practice Lead: Adam Bathe & John Blyth
  • Duration: Project duration will vary depending on the scope and scale of the requirements.
  • Outcomes: Secure training and develop best practices for community-led land and cultural management programs in the North.
  • Establish sustainable guardian and community stewardship programs that meet your long-term goals.
  • Increase local on-the-land capacity to manage lands and resources.
  • Create a well-resourced and sustainable program that builds on past successes.
Overview

We can help design, develop and implement guardian and community stewardship programs that allow the community to overcome the complex challenges they face in managing their land. We can help produce leaders to advocate for management practices based on Indigenous knowledge, community values, and scientific methods. Participants will learn the core skills needed to work with government and industry on land-use planning and protection, and in the assessment, development, management, and monitoring of resource projects. We have helped develop, build, and train people and programs in the Dehcho, Sahtú, and the Tłı̨chǫ.
